Performance Evaluation of IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) in a Multi-Rate WLAN

چکیده

IEEE 802.11 is the most important standard for wireless local area networks (WLANS). This paper presents a performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) in a multi-rate WLAN. We studied how throughput and delay varies with the distance of transmission in a multi-rate WLAN and the result was used to compare that of single rate WLAN. From the analysis it was observed that that a higher throughput and a lower delay was achieved when a multi-rate WLAN is used than when single rate is used.
